T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S III hits the FCC

We did know T-Mobile will be one of the U.S. carriers to offer the shiny new Samsung Galaxy S III. Their specific version of the device, marked as T999, has not only crossed the FCC hurdle, but has also be spotted at Bluetooth SIG (while its Wi-Fi certificate has been issued before). What this means is that Samsung is finalizing paperwork for the Big Day, which will (as promised) take place at some point this summer. We’ve no idea whether the Magenta carrier will change the name of the phone — and as far as I’m concerned that’s not the big deal — the most important thing is that T-Mobile is on board… And now we need to see which other carriers will join the wave. My guess is – all of the major ones will sell their own versions of

Hot Deal: AT&T’s HTC One X available for $129.99 at Amazon

Stop the presses! Amazon is selling ATT’s HTC One X for $129.99, which $70 less than what ATT is asking for. And guess what, this deal is good for everyone willing to put his/her signature on a two-year contract. Yep, that means both new customers and those upgrading, as well as those adding a line to existing accounts (whether its individual or a family account). The price without a contract, in case you care to know, is $549.99.

The One X is the best Android smartphone HTC has ever made. ATT’s version comes with Qualcomm’s 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 4.7-inch HD 720p touchscreen, LTE/HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing one, an array of sensors and 16GB of built-in memory.

Wallpaper That Keeps Your Wi-Fi Safe

French researchers developed Metapaper, which blocks Wi-Fi signals from escaping the home, ramping up security for the same price as traditional wallpaper. The paper, which still allows TV and radio waves to pass through, will hit the market next year, distributed by Finnish company Alstrom.

Even though setting a password on Wi-Fi is cheaper than installing yards of wallpaper, this innovation demonstrates the rising concern about connection security, and may appeal to consumers looking for added protection as they redecorate.

Wi-Fi is the most common Internet access point for mobile devices, and unsecured connections open up their hosts to a bevy of security threats. Hackers can sometimes dig up personal information just by accessing the same network connection, as the case was when Android endured a security breach on unsecured Wi-Fi networks.

Tech companies such as Google and home goods retailers like Lowes are drumming up “smart home” systems, using the

QGate GSM and RF home automation demonstrated

A company called QGate is showing off its new home automation devices that use GSM and RF to communicate. What you get when you buy the QGate system is a European-style outlet box that plugs into an outlet, with its own outlet on the front allowing you to control things from anywhere you can get a web connection using an app. The outlet kit sells for about €50.

The system allows you do things such as plug-in a lamp to the QGate plug and control it from around the world. I guess some people might like to have control of their lighting from around the world to help convince would-be thieves someone is home. I think the more common and useful approach would be to turn off the light in the kitchen if you’re already in bed and forgot to do it before.

Fujifilm unveils new waterproof XP170 digital camera

Fujifilm has unveiled a new digital camera called the FinePix XP170. The camera has a 14-megapixel resolution and is waterproof to 33 feet. The camera can survive drops from 6.5 feet and temperatures as low as 14°F. The camera is also dustproof and clearly aimed at outdoorsy types that need a rugged camera that can survive adventures.

The camera also has an interesting Wireless Image Transfer feature that can wirelessly shoot photographs from the digital camera to other devices. The wireless feature works in conjunction with an app available for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets that allows the camera access to the devices and the ability to upload photos to social networks. The camera also has 1080p HD video recording at 30 frames per second.

The wireless transfer feature works a lot like the EyeFi wireless memory card. Fujifilm’s system doesn’t use Wi-Fi
