T-Mobile: Shared data plans are not good for consumers
Amidst all the chatter from Verizon Wireless about being the first major carrier in the United States to offer shared data plans for families this summer, T-Mobile is taking a radically different approach. In a blog post, senior vice president of marketing at T-Mobile Andrew Sherrard made his views perfectly clear: shared data plans are not the way to go.
“Some of our competitors are backing away from simple, unlimited data and moving to family shared data plans. But would this approach actually deliver a better value to consumers? Do families really want to keep track of each others’ data consumption? We don’t think so,” he writes. “Just imagine mom’s email is suddenly unavailable because her teenage son watched an HD movie on his phone, consuming the family’s data allotment.” He then goes on to talk about how optimal data plans should contain three qualities: affordability, worry-free, and

AT&T wants lower phone subsidies
ATT is looking to pick up smartphones that will require it to provide lower subsidies, according to comments from ATT Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega.
Speaking at a conference, de la Vega said that subsides are eating into margins. This is one of the reasons that Sprint will not be turning a profit on the iPhone until 2015. To address these issues, ATT will be looking at devices that it can offer with lower subsidies but still be attractive to users.
“We have to watch subsidies and make sure that we bring devices to market that customers love and will keep and have low subsidies,” de la Vega said, according to Fierce Wireless.
He mentioned the Lumia 900 and HTC One X as devices which fit into this category. Nokia is desperate to get back in the United States and the Lumia was made with

Apple filtering “jailbreak” from all iTunes?
Apple is taking this locked down mobile operating system thing a little too far. Users are reporting that the Cupertino-based tech giant is filtering the term “Jailbreak” from the iTunes items. Apparently, all the listed categories are affected with this filter including Apps, songs, albums, podcast episodes, and iTunes U episodes. Don’t try to find the term jailbreak in iBooks either, as that is also being affected by the unnecessary block.
The site Shoutpedia found that 95 percent of its jailbreak searches came back looking like this, ‘j*******k.’ Moreover, the site also noticed the filter is currently applied on the iTunes store for the United States only, while other countries still get to see the complete word. Checkout the pic below:

See, things like this put a stain on the great work Apple has been doing on the functionality front of its

US HTC phones circumvent Apple’s patents
Apple has managed to score a victory against HTC, with the ITC finding that its Android phones infringed a patent dealing with context menus. It may be short lived, however, as it has been discovered that HTC is shipping a custom version of Android in the United States without such context menus in order to circumvent the block. The Verge has confirmed that the ATT HTC One X and HTC EVO 4G LTE both exclude the infringing feature. The ITC found that HTC’s messaging app was infringing on Apple’s patent, along with the stock Android browser and messaging app. The patent in question deals with the action performed when a user clicks on a phone number or email address – currently, an option menu pops up asking the user what they want to do, which HTC has been found to Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/nTAB6Uxz2w0/

Unlocked Nokia 808 PureView may launch in US
Jealous of your European friends who’ll have a chance to play with the Nokia 808 PureView? The 41-megapixel camera looks intriguing, but Nokia crushed some dreams when it announced that the phone wouldn’t be coming to the United States. In an interview with PCMag, Nokia’s US President, Chris Weber, said that while carriers won’t be offering the phone, an unlocked phone launch isn’t off the table. When asked about the phone directly by PCMag, Weber said the following: “We’ll figure out a way to make that available in the U.S. in the next couple of months.” The handset would be sold unlocked and unsubsidized, and feature support for ATT’s 3G bands. No word on if the device will also work on T-Mobile’s AWS bands. The phone might be coming to the United States after all, but we imagine only the most die Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/oHeSr-UlGA8/
