Huawei Ascend P1 hitting Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia in May; Latin America from June 2012 and Europe from summer

Huawei announced that its sexy-looking Ascend P1 smartphone will be available in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia through operators and retailers by May 2012, in Latin America from June 2012 and in Europe from summer, with other markets to follow.

If you recall from our previous writing on the subject, the Ascend P1 is available in two flavors with one of them (P1 S) being the world’s thinnest smartphone with dual-core processor. That CPU, in case you wonder, is TI’s OMAP 4460 clocking at 1.5GHz.

Aside from that, the Android smartphone also comes with a 4.3-inch qHD AMOLED touchscreen, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing one (for video calls), Dolby Mobile 3.0 with 5.1 surround sound technology, HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth, and of course a microSD memory card slot.

iPad mini in Q3 for $249-300 claim sources

Rumors around Apple’s iPad mini refuse to die down, with reports out of Taiwan suggesting the smaller slate is headed to market in Q3 2012 to take on Windows 8 machines as well as further Android models. The new iPad mini will be priced at a strongly competitive $249 to $299 according to NetEase, making it potentially half the price of the current third-gen new iPad.

As for who will be doing the honors in Apple’s manufacturing chain, according to the leaks both Foxconn and Pegatron will be producing the iPad mini. AUO is among the companies believed to be providing components for the tablet – in that particular case, the display – though exact specifications are still in short supply.

ASUS Padfone today available for pre-ordering in Taiwan, launches on April 20th

ASUS Padfone is now available in the company’s own backyard with retailers selling the device in three versions: the phone only, phone + tablet + Bluetooth headset/stylus, and all-in-one package that also includes the ever useful keyboard dock. The first option costs NT$17,990 (about US$610), the second – NT$24,980 (US$850), and the third – NT$28,901 (US$980). It’s a brand new device and its priced accordingly (i.e. expensive), with prices most likely going down in the next couple of weeks.

The Taiwanese company promised to launch the Padfone in April across the globe so we’re eager to know how much it will cost in the other parts of the world. Amazon Preps Larger Kindle Fire


The e-tailer ordered parts for a line of tablets from Taiwan-based chassis maker Catcher Technology, according to DigiTimes, but neither Catcher nor Amazon commented on specifics. The Kindle Fire, which outsold rivals like Samsung’s Android-powered tablets, cost a third the price of an iPad. If the next release offers significant improvements, Amazon may solidify its place as a powerful player in the tablet market.

Retail-savvy Amazon sold millions of the first Kindle Fire, especially during the holidays, due in large part to its affordability. The Kindle Fire’s $200 price tag makes it much more affordable than an iPad, ideal for consumers curious about tablets but working within a limited budget.
