RIM and Motorola submit revised nano-SIM design
Who knew there would be so much drama over something as simple as a new SIM card standard? Apple, Nokia, RIM, and Motorola have all clashed over the issue, with RIM and Motorola saying they would find a compromise on the new design that would please all parties. That revised design was submitted last night, and The Verge has managed to take a look at the new proposal. Previously, Nokia complained that Apple’s design would easily cause blocks, having removed all plastic edges to be little more than the metal chip. SIM maker GD revised the design to add small borders in order to prevent such jams, although voting reached a stalemate as neither designs from Apple or RIM/Motorola/Nokia could be agreed upon. As a compromise, Motorola and RIM reached out to Apple saying they would combine both Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/5veMczmZX48/

Hey RIM: It’s the App Store, Stupid!
The Waterloo, Ont.-based company focuses on making the user experience on its updated platform as “fluid” as possible. This includes new gestures so customers can see all notifications without leaving the device’s home screen, a messaging app that includes IMs, emails and text messages in the same space and a new live tile system and app drawer.
When the iPhone and Android smartphones began to emerge, RIM missed the boat by failing to evolve its OS to keep up. Now, the company is missing it again as it spends all its time updating BlackBerry’s user interface while ignoring the health of its mobile app store. Features like live tiles on the home screen and an updated, intuitive keyboard are nice interface ideas, but they may not be enough to make customers go with BlackBerry over platforms with more established app stores.

iPhone raids BlackBerry 10 keyboard magic
Could the iPhone raid one of RIM’s headline BlackBerry 10 features before the Canadian company’s own handsets are even near the shelves? If the iOS developer behind Octopus Keyboard has his way, it will: Mario Hros has been telling iDownloadBlog about the custom iPhone ‘board he’s been cooking up, borrowing the floating auto-prediction system RIM demonstrated at BlackBerry World and slapping the gesture-based UI onto his own iOS version.
Lest you’ve forgotten, RIM’s on-screen keyboard attempts to deliver some of the company’s legendary text-entry skills by supercharging a soft-keyboard. Rather than queuing up potential words in a line above the keys, they hover around the user’s fingers, accessed with a simple swipe. Less finger movement, RIM claims, means quicker entry. Octopus Keyboard uses its own completion engine, and can learn new words as the user enters them. It apparently works with any input Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/DUHcpkwWC78/

The Chat Room: Kanye Hates the Way You Dress
Meanwhile, Mexico City embraced the dirty side of dog ownership with a new campaign to clean up its public spaces, and the Obama campaign continued its love affair with social media, this time inviting supporters to use Spotify in support of the President’s reelection bid.
Kanye West Uses Twitter As Fashion Rant Line
Kanye West recently released a song called “I Don’t Like,” and he took to Twitter to add a few additions to his litany of pet peeves, honing in on men’s fashion in New York.
Kanye doesn’t like a lot of things, including hoodies paired with sports coats, off-brand workout sneakers, khaki cargo shorts and “big ass striped scarves.”
Unfortunately, Kanye is no stranger to sartorial folly, and his belt got stuck on a car door shortly after unleashing his Twitter rant, prompting his pants to fall down. New things Kanye may hate: heavy belts, and/or loose pants.

RIM hires new chief operating officer, new marketing officer
Research in Motion (RIM) just announced two new hires to its executive leadership team, employing Kristian Tear as COO and Frank Boulben as CMO. This move is apart of new RIM boss Thorsten Heins’ massive restructuring of the company to get rid of some of the “fat on the hip,” as he called it. These hires are also apart of Heins’ operation ‘laser focus’.
Who is Kristian Tear and Frank Boulben, you ask? Well, Tear comes to RIM from Sony Mobile, where he most recently worked as executive VP, while Boulben is a former executive VP at the financially challenged company, LightSquared.
In the BlackBerry makers press release announcing the hires, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said that “Kristian and Frank bring extensive knowledge of the rapidly changing wireless global market and will help RIM as we sharpen our focus on delivering long-term value to our stakeholders.”
These hires should come
