LG Eclipse photo shows removable battery and NFC
HTC and Samsung have both shown their hands of this years top of the line smartphones, but LG may still have something up its sleeve. BriefMobile has obtained more pictures of the LG Eclipse, said to be LG’s next superphone that will rival the Galaxy S III. The pictures show that the phone will have a removable battery and support for NFC, adding to the previously leaked specs of the device. The back may not be too exciting, but the specs are looking impressive: a 4.67-inch screen with a 720p LCD display, quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with Adreno 320 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash. The handset is said to be 8.6mm thick, and will feature LTE connectivity in the United States. It’s easy to get caught up in the Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/SBGg2uHRcBc/

LG Optimus LTE2 hitting South Korea this week
Even though most of the world still waits to try out the Optimus LTE, LG is already pushing the successor device in its own backyard. The electronics giant announced that the Optimus LTE2 will be available this week in South Korea, boasting few improvements over the original Optimus LTE model. There are two things to notice here – the new Optimus LTE comes with 2GB of RAM and a larger (2,150mAh) battery, while the rest of the specs is pretty much unchanged and includes a 4.7-inch True HD IPS LCD screen, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, GPS, Wi-Fi and so on.
While we’re not sure what’s the point of an extra gig of RAM — though it’s always good to have more of it — we do dig the larger battery with LTE networks pretty much draining your phone’s battery life like it’s nobody’s business. However, we do

WSJ: Next iPhone to feature larger screen
Rumors have been swirling that Apple is planning on moving to a larger screen for the next iPhone, and the Wall Street Journal backs that up today. Production for the next iPhone is due to start next month, and is said to measure “at least 4 inches diagonally compared with 3.5 inches on the iPhone 4S” according to people familiar with the matter. Panel suppliers for the new phone will include Sharp, LG, and Japan Display. It marks an interesting move by Apple, perhaps responding to various Android devices with ever increasing screen sizes. What started at around the 4-inch mark quickly moved to 4.3-inches, and the latest slew of handsets from Samsung, HTC, and LG hit the 4.7 and 4.8-inch marks. Customers seem to be responding well to the large sizes too, with Samsung reaping the lion’s share of Android Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/2T_4wcsONA0/

More foldy e-readers on the way. This one’s in color
Plastic Logic demo-ed its flexible, color e-reader today — another screen to support the notion that e-readers may one day act like paper.
According to Engadget, Plastic Logic received a funding round of $700 million from Rusnano to create the new screen. The can display over 4,000 colors and has 1.2 million plastic transistors. The company used part of the funding to deploy its e-textbook reader to schools in Russia.
Flexible e-reader screens are gaining popularity. Flexible e-ink screens create that reading-a-magazine-or-newspaper feel that, honestly, just looks cool. They can bend and fold like paper, although you won’t be able to fold your e-reader like a soft cover book just yet. What’s more impressive is that these new screens, Plastic Logic’s in particular, are being designed to keep images true and not distort them as folding a screen might otherwise do.

Korea-only Samsung SHV-E170K is Galaxy S III’s younger brother
South Korea’s KT announced the launch of 3 LTE-enabled smartphones, including the Samsung SHV-E170K. We haven’t heard about this bad boy before and most-likely we won’t hear about it again, since Samsung (and LG for that matter) has a number of devices that are exclusive to its own backyard. Moreover, now that the Galaxy S III is out, we have a new eye candy to focus our attention on.
Specs wise, the SHV-E170K is like Galaxy S III’s younger brother, boasting Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor (MSM8960), 4.3-inch qHD (540×960 pixels) Super AMOLED screen, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera coupled with 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and so on. In other words, it reminds us on the Samsung SPH-L300, which we’ve recently caught in the wild and which may end-up in Sprint’s portfolio…
