Motorola updates its ICS rollout schedule, Razrs getting update in Q2

Motorola updated the rollout schedule for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The upgrade table lists the most recent rollout date and upgrade status for each handset. As expected, the Droid Razr and Razr Maxx will be among the first to get ICS, while Bionic owners will be near the end. It’s meant to be encouraging to Motorola owners, but many may be disappointed by the long wait.

Google released the source code for Ice Cream Sandwich back in November of 2011. That was six months ago. According to Motorola’s latest update, many upgrades are still in the development phase and not slated to arrive until Q3 2012.  It’s still shameful that it takes this long to get an update out the door. The reasons for this delay are complicated. Motorola and others blame Google for the delay, while some blame carriers for the delay.

In reality, it’s probably a combination of

HTC Amaze 4G ICS update due May 21st

As of writing, Ice Cream Sandwich has made its way to 4.9% of all Android devices. That’s still extremely low considering the age of the operating system, and worrying considering Android 5.0 Jelly Bean is rumored to be launching soon. OEMs are scrambling to provide updates, so here’s a piece of good news: the HTC Amaze 4G on T-Mobile USA will receive an ICS update on May 21st.

What can you look forward to? Pretty much what you’ve seen on other HTC ICS devices so far, although Sense 4.0 won’t make the jump: you’ll be stuck with Sense 3.6 instead. Otherwise you’ll be seeing system bar enhancements, resizable widgets, an improved lock screen, Face Unlock, home screen folders, and improved battery life.

T-Mobile will push the update out OTA when it’s been approved, although you’ll be able to check manually via HTC’s

Samsung adds T-Mobile handsets to its ICS upgrade list

Samsung is adding four T-Mobile smartphones and tablets to the selection of devices that are eligible receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich via an OTA update. Upgrading the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy S Blaze 4G, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, and Galaxy Tab 10.1 to ICS have all been added to Samsung’s to-do list.

In April, Samsung released the full list of all devices it planned on giving the Ice Cream Sandwich treatment. This included smartphones and tablets on ATT, Verizon, Sprint, and WiFi-based devices. There was a conspicuous absence of T-Mobile devices, however. Where the T-Mobile upgrades should have been displayed, a message from Samsung was present that read: “We are in close communication with T-Mobile to ensure that eligible devices are upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming months and will provide updates as we have additional details to share.”

Verizon cuts the RAZR Maxx to $199, thinking about making the RAZR $99 again

October feels like yesterday, but it was actually seven months ago. That’s when Verizon announced the Motorola Droid RAZR. Three months later, they showed off a variant called the RAZR Maxx. What’s the difference? One can’t last a full day and is rather difficult to hold comfortably since it’s way too thin, the other can last several days off the charger and fits comfortably in the hand while still managing to be just 9 mm thick. Now the RAZR has been selling for $199 while the Maxx has been going for $299, assuming you sign a two year contract, but things have changed. Both the original RAZR and the Maxx are now just $199. The RAZR was on sale for $99 earlier this month, and according to TechCrunch, Verizon is thinking of making that the new permanent price since they say that low price tag helped push

As the summer blockbuster movies start to roll out, so do the movie tie-in games. NBC Universal is the latest to get in on the action with their new Android game called Battleship: Destroyer Experience. As most of you already know Movie Tie-In games can… well they can suck to be honest. As cool as a Battleship game might seem there’s a good possibility it will sink like a stone.

The Battleship: Destroyer Experience looks to be a hidden object game of sorts that lets you roam around the USS John Paul Jones destroyer from the movie. The ship is decked out with the latest in high-tech gear and you’ll have to explore four environments
