Why Texting While Walking Bans Go Too Far
Fort Lee, N.J. banned texting while walking, illustrating how far lawmakers are going to remedy the dangers of texting-induced distractions. Three pedestrians in Fort Lee died because of texting while walking in the past year, and officials decided to outlaw the habit to ramp up safety measures. With a population of around 32,000, the city has already issued 117 tickets since the law’s start several weeks ago.
Fort Lee is the first place to start and enforce such strict guidelines. Philadelphia began a campaign to curb pedestrian texting, but the police issued reminders, not tickets, a far cry from Fort Lee’s $85 fine.
Other cities and towns have mulled distracted walking bans in the past, but none have passed them.
Research indicates texters on the move are 60 percent more likely to swerve into someone, but issuing tickets for the behavior is a little extreme. People have also died while listening

Say hello to the Changhong H5018: Better known as the Baidu smartphone
Last month we filed a report that said Baidu was going to release a Foxconn manufactured 1,000 RMB ($160) smartphone with a 3.5 inch screen. Today, that device becomes official. It’s called the “Changhong H5018″ and it runs the “Baidu Cloud Smart Terminal platform”. Here’s how to think of this thing: Google started out a search engine, then built services, then released Android, and then finally started the Nexus program whereby they selected a company to make a “Google Phone”. Baidu is the Chinese version of that story. Last year Baidu partnered with Dell to release the Streak Pro D43, and now they’re partnering with Changhong to come out with the H5018. It’ll be sold through China Unicom, the world’s third largest operator, and that 1,000 RMB price tag can’t be ignored. Sure, Apple is making money hand over fist in China with their $700

Leak: Nokia 305, 306, and 311, the company’s first full touch dumbphones
Nokia has been making “touch enabled” dumbphones for a while now, but they’ve never actually made dumbphones that have nothing but a touch screen. Enter the 305, 306, and 311, which were discovered by Jay Montano from My Nokia Blog. Starting with the 305 and 306 (pictured above), they’re the exact same device, except that the 305 takes two SIM cards while the 306 is a single SIM product. Both have a 2 megapixel camera, and … that’s sadly all we know. The 311 is the premium product here (pictured below), with a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G support, and WiFi connectivity. Along with the leaked devices, there’s also a leaked user manual that features cartoons, which is also a first for the company.

Now the important question: When are these things going to be announced? Since the leak originated in China, that probably
