SpareOne phone lasts 15 years on a single AA battery
Featured at CES 2012, the SpareOne has officially hit the market as a simple mobile phone that can last for 15 years — yes you read that right — on a single charge.
No, unfortunately the SpareOne is not a smartphone, and in fact it can’t even really be considered a feature phone. All you can do with it is make and receive phone calls. It’s being marketed as a perfect phone to use for emergencies only. SpareOne owners can make emergency calls with or without a SIM card installed. The 15-year shelf life means you shouldn’t ever have to worry about low battery life in the case of an emergency. It has 10-hour talk time which is a significant drop from 15 years, but again if you only use this for emergencies, the talk time is more than adequate.
The phone’s design is as bare-bones as it gets

Samsung SGH-i667 Mandel caught in the wild, when connected to Zune Desktop
Samsung SGH-i667 aka Mandel, the Windows Phone we thought will be unveiled at CES, has been caught the in wild, as you’re about to see from the image below. Moreover, the same device has seen connected up to Zune Desktop, as illustrated in the image above.
As far as we know (and we really don’t know that much), it’s not a high-end phone, boasting just 8GB of built-in storage. In that sense, it could’ve been a successor to the Focus Flash or something like that. Moreover, we’re not sure whether Samsung still plans to release this baby or replace it with something better. The rumor is that they’re working on a flagship Windows Phone 8 device, one that would mimic the brand new Galaxy S III. Then again, that’s just a rumor and at this stage we don’t have a single photo that would confirm the

Microchip Tech bets on car chips with $939M Standard Microsystems buy
Semiconductor maker Microchip Technology will acquire smaller rival Standard Microsystems for about $939 million, a move that will help Microchip enter the car tech market, the company said Thursday.
As we noticed at January’s CES conference, car tech is taking off in a big way this year. More than any other time in the history of CES, car manufacturers showed up to show off all the advancements they have made in tech. Microchip Technology’s buy today will tap into this trend because Standard Microsystems (SMSC) manufactures chips that control data transfers in many cars, including models for BMW, Audi, and Daimler.
“SMSC is the leading vendor of media networking technologies for automobiles, with over an 80 percent share in the luxury market,” Thinkequity analyst Sujeeva De Silva told Reuters. “But it’s moving fast in the mainstream market in cars like Toyota,

LG intros 3D World store on 2011/2012 Smart TVs
Television manufacturers may be keen on selling us the latest and greatest 3DTVs, but content so far has been limited. You’re pretty much restricted to buying 3D Blu-rays, and no one has really stepped up and offered the ability to download 3D titles over the internet. That’s set to change, as LG has announced that the launch of 3D World, a service which will allow customers of LG’s Smart TVs to watch 3D content. Owners of LG’s Cinema 3D Smart line of TVs will find a “card” on the home dashboard that will open up the 3D World store. The store will house content from various categories, including movies, sports, documentaries, and lifestyle programs. Users need only select what they want to watch, and LG will begin piping it down in 3D to your television. 3D World will be available as an app Čítaj ďalej: http://feeds.slashgear.com/~r/slashgear/~3/xoeLBzzZ4pg/

Nokia’s Lumia 900 may finally hit AT&T stores on April 9
After countless rumored release dates, it now seems like Nokia’s Lumia 900 Windows Phone — our favorite product from CES — will finally be available in ATT stores on April 9th.
Apparently, some ATT stores already have demo units of the phone available, a WPCentral reader tells the site. ATT employees have also confirmed the April 9 release to the site, though there hasn’t yet been an official release announcement from ATT, Nokia, or Microsoft.
The April 9 release makes sense given what we’re hearing from sources as well. The phone is expected to retail for $99 on contract, with online orders starting on April 8th.
The Lumia 900′s specs are killer: It sports a 4.3-inch AMOLED Clear Black display — a big improvement over the Lumia 800′s 3.7-inch screen, 1.4 gigahertz CPU (though unfortunately not dual-core — those Windows Phones are expected later this year), and a front-facing camera
