HTC EVO 4G LTE delayed at Best Buy

Best Buy may have jumped the gun a little in throwing up a release date for the HTC EVO 4G LTE. The company has now sent out emails to customers saying that the phone has been delayed, with no new date given so far. It comes after it was revealed that the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE face a customs block, preventing the phones from being sold in the United States until they’ve been cleared of patent infringement.

The phone was due to go on sale today, but the devices have been held at customs thanks to a December ITC ruling blocking the import of future HTC Android handsets. HTC was found to be infringing on one of Apple’s patents relating to the use of email address and phone number links. Clicking one of those would bring up a context

Best Buy cleans house in aftermath of scandal, sends founder to retirement

It’s not a good week to be the head of a publicly-traded company — if you like playing fast and loose with the rules, that is.

The same weekend that Yahoo CEO Scott Thompson resigned after a false claim on his résumé, Best Buy announced that it would be replacing its founder and chairman, Richard Schulze. Schulze’s departure follows the April news that former Best Buy chief executive Brian Dunn had resigned.

In Schulze’s place, Hatjim Tyabji, currently a board director, will become chairman of the company. Schulze will retain the purely honorary title “Founder and Chairman Emeritus,” according to a Best Buy press release.

Schulze was brought down by a scandal involving Dunn. An independent investigation by the Best Buy board found, according to the press release, that:

Ask Siri what the best smartphone is – she’ll say Nokia Lumia 900

Apple’s voice recognition platform on the iPhone 4S is an attempt at creating something that interacts with you like a human. And in fact, Siri may even be more human than people who work at Apple because it looks like she is capable of humility. Apparently if you ask the digital assistant “What is the best smartphone ever?” she will tell you it’s the Windows Phone-powered Nokia Lumia 900.

The irony is awesome, but of course the response is based on a quantified interpretation of the question. Siri computes the question as figuring out the “best mobile phones” and by default sorts that list by “customer review average.” At the present moment, the Lumia 900 happens to have a 5-star average customer rating. The exact location of this data remains largely unknown, but it does pull from Best Buy’s website as a background

Apple’s Siri calls the Nokia Lumia 900 “the best smartphone ever”

Conventional wisdom nowadays might suggest that Apple’s iPhone 4S is “the best smartphone ever.”

But that’s not the case if you ask Siri, the voice assistant software installed on the 4S. Strangely enough, Siri answers the question by pointing to Nokia’s Lumia 900, as The Next Web reports.

siri-lumia-900The reason for that should be obvious. Siri pulls quite a bit of its information from the Wolfram Alpha answer engine, which, in this case, used its “customer review average” for its results. Run the same question by Wolfram Alpha’s online page and you’ll get the exact same response.

What’s really interesting here is that Apple’s iPhone doesn’t even appear in the top ten of Wolfram Alpha’s results. The 4S is no. 13, even though it has received the same average rating as 12 phones above it. In contrast, devices like the Samsung
