Why Brain Sensors Are Dangerous Behind the Wheel

Researchers at MIT, Tufts and Indiana University created a portable brain sensor that’s small enough to wrap around the forehead. Brainput recognizes when users are multitasking and feeds information to one or more devices ranging from computers to cars, promising to ease the wearer’s responsibilities by automating the devices.

Brainput operates like a standard-issue brain monitor, but its software responds to brain wave activity, signaling multitasking, and sends information to one of the user’s devices. Though researchers experimented with robots, they believe Brainput can help automate cars, military vehicles and a variety of other machines.

The idea of “smart cars”, or partly automated vehicles, is catching on, especially for their ability to help older drivers stay behind the wheel. And Brainput can work as a smart car accessory, sending the vehicle into an automated state while the driver texts or plays a quick game of “Angry Birds.”

But distracted driving deaths caused

Sony’s Reality Fighters DLC announced

Sony has announced its plans for releasing new downloadable content (DLC) for its truly unique augmented reality fighting game Reality Fighters on the PlayStation Vita. The first batch of DLC arrived today. And to encourage gamers to keep the game alive, this first set is free. It’s a pack of 15 new weapons for the game including a cannon, smoke bombs, and a jetpack.

Of course, the offer of free DLC could also just be a way for Sony to get gamers addicted to the idea of new content and then start paying for it, which they’ll have to do for next week’s DLC entitled the Soccer Pack. That one will cost $2.99. The following week, on May 22, a Ghostbusters pack will arrive. That’s right – you’ll be able to fight as a Ghosbuster or as the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and

Facebook’s Timeline and Angry Birds join up to eliminate all of your productivity

Rovio released Angry Birds for Facebook on February 14, but now it’s done one better: You can play the game right in your Timeline.

Rovio announced the news today on its blog.

The way it works is this: When you’re playing the Angry Birds Facebook app, the game occasionally offers you the chance to share one of your “accomplishments.” It took me about 2 minutes to get one of these offers, so it’s not like it’s difficult or anything. When you share it, Facebook actually embeds a tiny, playable version of that level right in your Timeline.

Then, if your friends are among the .002 percent of the human population that has not yet heard of or tried they game, they can play it there and get as addicted to Angry Birds as you are, the poor saps. If they ever get tired of playing the tiny version

How Tetris Is Helping Soldiers Fight Stress Disorders

A research team at Oxford University discovered playing Tetris alleviates symptoms of PTSD, including flashbacks, by interrupting the process of storing painful memories in the brain.

“Tetris therapy” doesn’t erase or suppress the memory, but because Tetris engages the same parts of the brain used for imprint vivid mental images, playing the game soon after trauma may interfere with the mind using those areas to store extensive, detailed recollections.

The Tetris therapy could be especially helpful for soldiers in combat zones trying to stop reliving painful experiences, as accessing the game is easier than making time for extensive talking therapy, or risk the side effects of pharmaceutical drugs used to treat PTSD. The U.S. Army could use the popular game to treat returning and deployed soldiers.

Smartphone use in the Army is on the rise, and since Tetris is available as an app and on portable gaming devices, troops will have access
